MAYCO Purple Aster Dry Powder Dipping Glaze 4.5kg

Use Mayco Stoneware Dry glazes for fast dipping and layering action, creating natural flowing effects. All you need to do is add water, slake, stir and DIP!

  • Mix with water for dipping, layering or pouring techniques - no sieving required.
  • Great for pieces with a lot of surface texture and for layering techniques.
  • Colours and formulas are identical to their liquid/brush on variants (minus the added organic gums).

Cone 6 oxidation: Purple Aster is a glossy, semi-opaque lavender glaze that breaks over texture and develops a pale violet frost; deep blue crystals melt into cascading blossoms of indigo.

Cone 10 reduction: Colour darkens slightly. No change to crystals.

TIP: Purple Aster uses SW165 Lavender Mist as the base glaze. This glaze stable at 3 coats, even with heavy application. Crystals can create movement.

When applying Stoneware Dry Crystal glazes, use a cup or ladle to pour the glaze over your piece. While the glaze is wet, you may use a fan brush to evenly distribute the crystals; avoid heavy crystal loading on the bottom 1/3 of your piece.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Prior to opening, gently tumble bag to redistribute material. Sieving is not necessary.
  2. Mix one 4.5kg bag of dry material into at least 5.5kg of water and stir thoroughly.
  3. If needed, add additional water until desired consistency is reached. Mayco recommends a Specific Gravity in the range of 1.47-1.51 for a 1 second dip time; you may want to mix to a lower Specific Gravity if you layer your glazes or tend to dip longer.
  4. Stir well before each use.

Always wear a respirator when handling dry glazes.

DIPPING TIPS

  1. Immerse the ware for 1-2 seconds. We suggest using dipping tongs. One dip of Mayco Dry is equivalent to 3 coats of brush-on glaze.
  2. Shake excess glaze off gently. Allow the glaze to dry before applying additional coats, if desired.
  3. Fire to preferred temperature between cones 5-10 (1186°C-1285°C).

Testing is always recommended. The choice of clay body, the thickness of glaze application, the firing process, and temperature will affect the fired results.

For me this was a waste of money.
I doesn't bite well to my skimmer opening eventually the current will spin it out of angle. I would never buy another one. Maybe its because my opening it tile so it can't bite it hard enough when expanded.

Dog’s favorite
I don’t get the appeal of this toy, but the dogs love it. Easy to play fetch with, the dogs even use it as a tug toy occasionally. My Lab loves it so much, it’s her toy that she takes to bed with her every night. Glad I purchased it; well worth it.

One of my dog’s favorite toys.
This is one of my dog’s favorite toys. She loves figuring out how to pull the crinkly part out of the rubber tube, and she loves chewing on the spiky rubbery tube. I have to replace this toy often because my dog also likes to pull pieces of rubber off of the tube. She doesn’t ingest the rubber; she just loves the act of pulling it all apart. I am still giving this toy 5 stars because my dog loves this toy and it keeps her busy.

Not a durable toy.
This only lasted a few minutes before it was destroyed by our dog. Not made well for chewing.
