On Elephantine, Maurice Louca's new album released exclusively on Sub Rosa on vinyl LP, the Cairo-based musician guides a 12-piece ensemble through a 38-minute masterwork that might best be described as panoramic. Elements of free improvisation, Sun Ra's cosmic jazz, gorgeous Arabic melody, trancelike African and Yemeni music, and minimalism meet in his wholly unique compositional vision. Louca has in recent years garnered a global reputation through two previous solo albums and an expanding, evolving lineup of genre-defying collaborations. The Wire called his 2014 sophomore solo effort, Benhayyi Al-Baghbaghan (Salute the Parrot) (NAWA 002CD/LP/X-LP, 2014), "remarkable music-dense, driven and splashed with colour." In 2017, Lekhfa (MST 003CD/MST 4001LP), the debut by the trio of Louca and vocalists Maryam Saleh and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh, was praised as an "edgy triumph" by the Guardian. For Louca, 36, Elephantine serves as both the pinnacle of his wide-ranging experience and a bold next step in his development as a composer, arranger, and bandleader. "There was a blessed thing about the process of making this record," Louca says of the sessions, held in Stockholm. "The dynamic between us musically but also as people... What these musicians delivered was really more than I could ask for, Everyone played their hearts out on this record." The music-from it's pensive lulls through it's stretches of hard-grooving hypnosis and moments of avant-jazz catharsis-testifies to that rapport. Best absorbed as a continuous performance, Elephantine's six individually named tracks nonetheless present striking self-contained landscapes. "The Leper" entrances through a deft use of repetition that Louca gleaned from cosmic jazz, African and Yemeni music, and other transcendental modal traditions. "Laika" manages to evoke the minimalists, though on the combustible terms of '60s and '70s free jazz; "One More for the Gutter", on which Louca ingeniously pits one half of his ensemble against the other, albeit in a synergistic way, mines similarly fiery terrain. "The Palm of a Ghost" distills the band to a Cairo-rooted core, featuring stirring spontaneous melodies from oud player Natik Awayez, violinist Ayman Asfour, and vocalist Nadah El Shazly. The album's title track follows, and it too blurs the border between composition and improvisation with gorgeously atmospheric results. SO GOOD
Color: Light
This product is so velvety and goes onto the skin so nicely. As per usual, it feels like natural skin but it has great coverage -- I was pleasantly surprised. I don't know what Colorscience does, but they have the magic. I am a forever customer of all of their products. It's a plus that their products are good for the skin AND have SPF as well.

Holy grail of tinted spf
Color: Light
I’ve tried numerous brands that I won’t mention but at least 20…. and this little tube of tint was my answer. I have very light skin and every other brand has a light shade that isn’t light enough or is too yellow or orange. Well the tint du soliel in light is the perfect answer to my fair pink undertone skin.
It is the most beautiful consistency and I apply it with a beauty blender (yes I lose some product with the blender method - but the final result is an EVEN beautiful light and natural tint that literally looks like skin itself- absolutely no streaking or cakiness). It was remarkably easy to blend and immediately set to its beautiful satin finish. I’m just floored at how good my face looks. It’s very pricey at $60 for just 1.0 oz, but with this formula and aesthetic, it is absolutely worth it. I just ordered another one even though I’m not even half way through my first bottle! I’m a fan for life. Try this tint du soleil!!!!

Best sunscreen I tried. Be sure to rub it in and let it absorb into your skin.
Size: 6.76 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Style: Lotion (SPF 50)
This is an excellent product that absorbs quickly and leaves no chalky white or thick oily residue. UVA and UVB protection at spf 50. Two out of four of the active ingredients are double the amount in other brands and it has more of the two remaining ingredients so I guess it’s not my imagination that it’s more effective than other brands I’ve used.
No detectable odors. Has an ingredient to help sand from sticking but I haven’t been on sand so can’t comment on that.
It left white marks on the edge of the neck of my black crew neck T-shirt when I didn’t rub the sunscreen in and let it dry. However the marks came out in the wash.
It stays where you put it, but keep it away from the eyes. Expensive probably because there are more of the active ingredients. I use it only on my face and neck but it is the best sunscreen I have tried.

Might stain certain fabrics?

Great product, works well. My only complaint is I believe it might have stained my white, UV blocking running top. After the first use there was yellowing all long the neckline and sleeves where I either accidentally got it on the shirt or sweating transferred it on. I’ve never had this problem before and can’t 100% be sure the lotion itself is to blame but it is the only thing that changed from other times I ran in that top. I haven’t noticed this problem with other tops so I’m not sure if it was the material itself or the color that reacted. Still going to give it 5 stars because I like the product.
