About the Author

Born in Lunenburg County, Virginia, Susie Moore Hillery grew up in Perseverance Christian Church. She received her bachelor of arts from Lynchburg College, her master of arts degree from the University of Kentucky, and studied at Lexington Seminary, the University of Texas, the University of Virginia, the University of Richmond, and Virginia Commonwealth University. She was an educator in Virginia and Texas and a pastor in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee, Hawaii, Kentucky, and Virginia. In 1972, she was selected as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. After traveling to thirty-eight countries and all fifty states, she is now living in Henrico County, Virginia, and giving back to the community as a chaplain at Henrico Doctors Hospital, reading to school classes, and conducting worship services and being a friendly visitor in nursing homes. She is in leadership positions in the Seventh Street Christian Church, Richmond, Virginia, and other local organizations. Her great enjoyment is spending time with her two children, Vincent and Nathan, and four grandchildren, Alina, Melania, Luiza, and Francesca.
