Eight years before Sylvia Plath published Ariel, the Uruguayan poet Idea Vilari o released Poemas del Amor, a collection of confessional, passionate poetry dedicated to the novelist Juan Carlos Onetti. Both of her own merit and as part of the Uruguayan writers group the Generation of '45--which included Onetti, Mario Benedetti, Amanda Berenguer, and Ida Vitale--Vilari o is an essential South American poet, and part of a long tradition of Uruguayan women poets. Vilari o and Onetti's love affair is one of the most famous in South American literature. Poemas del Amor is an intense book, full of poems about sexuality and what it means to be a woman, and stands as a testament to both the necessity and the impossibility of love. This translation brings these highly personal poems to English speaking audiences for the first time side-by-side with the original Spanish language versions. I want to thank the manufacturer for changing the design of this shape to an easier to swallow elliptical shape instead of the jaw breaker shape.

GREAT READ
Format: Hardcover
I can’t stop thinking about Laws of Love and Logic, a debut novel by Debra Curtis. It’s beautifully written, incredibly heartbreaking, but nevertheless hopeful. It’s definitely not your typical romance novel rather it’s heavily character driven, and thought provoking. The characters feel so real. The way the author writes about the sisters’ relationship will stay with me forever. Also, having grown-up Catholic, I was so inspired to see progressive Catholicism with an emphasis on serving the most vulnerable, as being a foundational part of the sisters’ lives. The story spans decades, opening in the 70s and follows the characters into middle age. If you like books by Elizabeth Strout and Ann Patchett, you’ll love this one.
