From one of the world's most respected business and social philosophers, a groundbreaking book that challenges us to question our reliance on traditional definitions of "success" and inspires us to find meaning and fulfillment in our professional, personal and spiritual lives. Many of us, Charles Handy asserts, are confused and frustrated by the fast-paced, prosperous world we have created for ourselves. We are puzzled by the consequences of capitalism, whose material benefits and comforts we enjoy every day, but which also divides rich from poor, consumes so much of our energies, and does not always lead to a more contented life. In a world that is super-efficient, highly productive, and too often soulless, how do we quench our spiritual "hunger"? In The Hungry Spirit, one of the most visionary business thinkers of our age offers a powerful argument for reexamining the role of work in our lives and discovering what we are truly meant to do and to be. Calling on individuals and organizations to find purpose in the journey we take rather than focusing on money and profits, which are simply the means to keep us going, Handy shows how we can all better ourselves and our companies while also contributing to a decent society. As an oil executive, world-renowned economist, consultant, and professor at the London Business School, Handy himself was once no stranger to the trappings and fortunes of capitalism. But several years ago, Handy realized that he, like many of us, had placed too much significance on job titles and career success to the exclusion of his family, friends, and, especially, the fulfillment of his need to become a complete person, not just a worker slaving away in corporate machinery. He set about looking for what he calls his "white stone"--a symbol of the higher self that represents our true destiny, what you can become when you don't let titles and money and societal pressures get in the way. Just as Handy urges all of us to seek our "white stone" and take greater responsibility for shaping our lives, he also entreats companies and organizations to push themselves to new heights by sticking to a clear-cut purpose. Companies, like individuals, can only grow if they embrace risk and break rules and attract people looking to turn dreams and new ideas into businesses that consumers and investors are excited about. Rather than trying to rally coworkers around a quarterly profit goal, companies must treat employees as citizens, as well as behaving as corporate citizens within the wider community. Handy calls for corporations to take a greater role in upholding the moral structure of society and to use their power to distribute knowledge and wealth to those who need the opportunity to develop--which will one day benefit us all. A rare combination of engaging storytelling, philosophical exploration, and down-to-earth wisdom, The Hungry Spirit offers readers a powerful tonic for the profit-driven lives we've prescribed for ourselves and an inspiring message of hope. A great choice at affordable price
Color: White, Number of Items: 1, Color: White, Number of Items: 1
The design of the chair is sleek and nice looking at a very affordable price and a decent quality. It is the cheaper version of a more expensive one. The wheels move easily; the back of the chair tilts just enough; it is a deep chair to support my back (only 5"3), so I added a back pillow making perfectly comfortable to provide support needed for long period of times. If I have a negative comment, it is about the back of the chair being black so purely matter of esthetic.: and armrests narrower than I'd like and wrapped with 2 pieces of leather connected with a piece of fabric a bit loose with a zipper which will allow overtime to be completely removed and left with chrome completely if wearing out or simply if you prefer that look so options. A great purchase

Great looking chair, a bit hard, fantastic value!

3 for comfort, 5+ for looks and 5 for ease of putting together so I landed on a 4+. I absolutely love the way this chair looks and it accents my other darker office items well. I'm 5'4" and can sit in the chair, all the way back without a pillow so the size works well for me. The back support is fine and you can adjust it if you want it straighter or rock back & forth. I changed out the casters for a more rollerblade type wheel when so I can't speak to the rollability of the included casters, but works well with the wheels I installed. Fantastic value and I'm soo glad I purchased it!

Unbelievable!!!

First off, let me say wow! When I received this, I didn’t expect much because of the price, but I am blown away with the care that was given in the packaging alone, the simplicity of putting it together with the detailed yet brief instruction page, and the ability to put this together with one person. Took me less than 40mins. Highly recommend!!! And in fact, I’m purchasing another one right now as I’m sitting here rocking in my new beautiful chair.
UPDATE: a lot of negative reviews are basically user error. To attach the wheels, to snap on, I used a rubber (not metal) mallet to tap them in. To the leveling review, you have one arm on backwards. To the screw passing through, you may be correct but double check you didn’t use the required screws elsewhere. And the person saying it doesn’t recline, you have to release the lock - pull the up and down lever out and away from the seat. Good luck all!
Bought a second one - same thoughts as above. Pretty awesome chair.

Great aesthetic and easy assembly, but lacking in all-day comfort
Color: Orange, Number of Items: 1
Pros:
Simple Assembly: It took less than 45 minutes to build. The instructions are straightforward, and all necessary tools are included. Getting the armrests aligned takes a bit of finagling, but it's manageable.
Appearance & Shipping: It arrived well-packaged with no damage. It has a sleek, modern look that adds a great aesthetic to an office space, and the height adjustment works perfectly.
Cons:
Lack of Support: The comfort level falls short. At 5'11", I found the back offers no lumbar support, and the backrest isn't tall enough to serve as a headrest.
Disappointing Armrests: The armrests are mostly metal with a thin, flimsy layer of faux leather. If you live in a colder climate or a poorly insulated home, the metal frames get quite cold to the touch.
Limited Padding: The seat cushion is minimal. After about 3 hours of sitting, it starts to feel very firm and uncomfortable.
Verdict:
You ultimately get what you pay for. I would not recommend this as a primary desk chair for an 8-hour workday. However, it is an affordable, sharp-looking option if you just need a decorative accent piece, a guest chair, or budget-friendly seating for a conference room.
