Rega Kyte Loudspeakers

Available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada, the Rega Kyte is a compact 2-way bookshelf speaker that brings genuine Rega engineering — proprietary drivers, in-house crossover components, and a revolutionary phenolic resin cabinet — to an accessible price point. Designed and hand-assembled entirely in the UK, the Kyte is the loudspeaker at the heart of Rega's System One vinyl package and stands alone as one of the most distinctively engineered compact speakers in its class. Tone Publications named it Budget Product of the Year, praising its "excellent bass response, smooth yet defined treble and very refined midrange." What Hi-Fi? awarded the Rega System One a full 5 stars, calling the Kyte "meatier, fuller and more zealous" than comparable speakers at similar prices.

Phenolic Resin Cabinet — A First in Loudspeaker Design

The Kyte's cabinet is made from injection-moulded thermoset phenolic resin — the same material Rega uses for the platters and structural braces in their turntables. Rega made a major investment in UK moulding equipment to achieve this, collaborating with a British manufacturing partner. Phenolic resin is inherently stiffer than MDF or standard plastic, and the Kyte's cabinet further reinforces this with ceramic damping plates bonded to the inner walls and a complex internal cross-brace structure. The result is a cabinet with virtually no audible panel vibration — reviewers who tap the cabinet report it feels "really solid," barely believing it is hollow. This level of structural control, at this price, would be impossible using conventional wood cabinet construction — Rega estimates the approach costs one third of what comparable UK-built wooden cabinets would require.

In-House Drivers — MX-125 & ZRR Tweeter

Rega designs and manufactures its own drivers rather than sourcing from third-party suppliers — a commitment that extends to the Kyte. The MX-125 bass-mid unit uses a 125mm paper cone with a four-layer voice coil for improved power handling and control. The ZRR (Zero Rear Reflection) tweeter is Rega's own high-frequency unit, shared across the Kyte and the wider Rega speaker range. Rega also winds its crossover components in-house — an unusual level of vertical integration at any price point. The Ear noted that "the Kyte's strength lies in its midrange speed and coherence," and that it "can bring out the emotional intent and musical skills of pretty much everything you play."

Frequently Asked Questions

What amplifier does the Rega Kyte work best with?

The Kyte has a 6Ω nominal impedance and 89dB sensitivity — making it an easy load for most amplifiers. It pairs naturally with the Rega io and Rega Brio integrated amplifiers, and reviewers have successfully driven it with amplifiers as low as 8 watts from a 300B single-ended triode amp. Any quality amplifier rated at 25W or more will drive the Kyte to satisfying levels.

Can the Rega Kyte be used on a bookshelf or does it need stands?

The Kyte is designed for flexible placement. It ships with a rear T-shaped foot that angles the speaker slightly upward when placed on a shelf or desk. For stand use, Rega offers a custom stand mount adaptor (sold separately) that allows the Kyte to be fitted to a wide range of third-party speaker stands. Reviewers recommend leaving some clearance between the rear port and the wall for best bass performance.

Why does Rega use phenolic resin instead of wood for the Kyte cabinet?

Phenolic resin is significantly stiffer than MDF and does not require bracing to achieve low panel resonance. Rega adds ceramic damping plates and internal cross-bracing on top of the inherent stiffness of the resin, resulting in a cabinet that is more acoustically inert than conventional wood designs at this price. Rega estimates the approach costs one third of what an equivalent UK-made wooden cabinet would require — allowing them to invest the savings in driver and crossover quality.

Is the Rega Kyte compatible with the Rega System One turntable package?

Yes. The Kyte is the speaker component of Rega's System One — a complete vinyl replay system comprising the Planar 1 turntable, the io integrated amplifier, and the Kyte speakers. The Kyte can also be purchased and used independently with any compatible amplifier.

What does the Rega lifetime warranty cover?

Rega's lifetime warranty covers confirmed manufacturing defects on all their products, including the Kyte. It does not cover wear and tear or consumable parts. Contact Vinyl Sound Toronto for warranty service information in Canada.

These are cheaply made, and garbage, highly dangerous letting a dog chew on a battery pack
Color: Grid Pattern
These units are garbage. I got one for each of my dogs charged it up turned it on put it inside the rubberized ball shell and securely fastened it less than two minutes later my dog had taken it apart by just biting it and then started to chew on the battery and motor unit. So if you wanna have a lithium polymer fire in your house and potentially kill your animal, go ahead and get this, but if you do not want a fire in your house and you want your animal to live then absolutely do not buy this garbage it’s cheap we made and it’s not strong enough for any dog

Good Product, but images over promise just a little.
Color: Ripple Pattern
- Performs well on tile and low pile carpet. On artificial grass it doesn’t roll even on the highest setting; it only vibrates. Watch the video. - Still fun for my pup. I’ve only had it a day so no clue about durability although my dog is a strong chewer. - Price Value: When purchased it was 2 balls for the same price of a single ball from competitor. - Material feels like a Nerf football. Easy to disassemble and charge.

Best jiggle balls we have found thus far
Color: Ripple Pattern
Yes ! First off this was a great value for the money. The balls function just as described and they have a decent battery life. They entertain both our goldens for a good bit of time. They have so far held up and not been chewed up . We limit the time and put them away after that time.. to avoid them being destroyed. Of all the jiggle balls we have purchased these are by far the best. The way the component is encased in the rubber protects it.. and it screws together very well. I am so pleased with these !

Perfect for Blind Dogs, Fun and Durable
Size: 2-pack, Style: Duo
My blind dog loves these Chuckit! sniff balls. She can easily sniff them out and plays fetch with them for 20 minutes a day, even running up and down the stairs. The balls are durable, bounce well, and the bacon and peanut butter scent keeps her engaged. I do wish Chuckit! would bring back the version with a tone so we could play fetch outside more easily. Overall, a fantastic toy for dogs that rely on scent and a fun way to keep them active.
