Betnovate Description
Betnovate is a steroid cream that helps reduce inflammation and swelling.
It helps to reduce inflammation, which eases your symptoms.
Apply to the affected area daily as directed – it can start working in just a few days.

What is Betnovate?

Betnovate is a steroid medication that helps reduce swelling and inflammation in skin conditions such as dermatitis. Dermatitis refers to inflammation of the skin and is a general term for various inflammatory skin conditions. People often use it interchangeably with eczema, but while eczema specifically describes dry, itchy, and inflamed skin, dermatitis is a broader term that includes any type of inflammatory skin condition, including eczema.

The treatment for dermatitis varies depending on its type, but it often involves medications like steroids to reduce swelling and redness, and emollients to tackle dryness. Steroids come in different strengths, and the one used will depend on how severe your inflammation is.

How does Betnovate work?

Betamethasone valerate is the active ingredient in Betnovate. It's a type of corticosteroid that helps to reduce inflammation in a few ways. When you apply it, it attaches to your DNA and encourages the production of proteins such as lipocortin. This action prevents the activation of mast cells and cytokines, and reduces chemotaxis, which is the movement of cells towards chemical signals—all of these contribute to inflammation. By stopping these processes, Betnovate can help lower inflammation and ease your symptoms.

What doses of Betnovate are there?

Betnovate comes in just one strength: 0.1%. It's a potent steroid that you apply twice daily. The potency of a steroid indicates how strong its effects are, but keep in mind that stronger steroids can lead to more side effects. Here's a list of common steroids, arranged from the weakest to the strongest:

Hydrocortisone < Elocon < Betnovate < Dermovate These are different strengths of steroid creams, with Hydrocortisone being the mildest and Dermovate the strongest.

Usually, your clinician will begin treatment with a mild steroid such as hydrocortisone. If you don't see any improvement, they might prescribe a stronger steroid like Betnovate.

How long does Betnovate take to work?

Betnovate tends to work quite quickly, so you should notice some improvement within a few days. However, if there's no change after two weeks, get in touch with your clinician online. They might need to adjust your dosage or recommend a different treatment.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Betnovate?

If you accidentally use too much or swallow it, get medical help straight away. Using too much or for too long can cause the steroid to enter your bloodstream and lead to side effects.

If you forget to use a dose of Betnovate, just apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it's nearly time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and carry on with your usual treatment routine.

How effective is Betnovate for dermatitis?

Two groups, each consisting of 80 patients with dermatitis, were treated with either 0.1% hydrocortisone buteprate (HBP) or 0.1% betamethasone valerate (BV). Each patient used the same medication in two forms: a cream and an ointment. They applied the cream to one side of their body and the ointment to the other. The effectiveness in clearing their symptoms was then recorded.

By the end of the treatment, the results indicated that both medications were effective. In the cream studies, 50% of patients were completely healed. In the ointment study, 38% of patients treated with HBP were healed, while 48% of those treated with BV were healed. Both treatments worked well, but in the ointment trial, BV was a bit more effective.

HBP and BV are both topical steroids, but they vary in strength. HBP is less strong than BV and is typically used for mild dermatitis. Your doctor will decide which strength of steroid is suitable for you. Starting with a milder steroid is often recommended to reduce the risk of side effects.

Is Betnovate similar to Dermovate?

Betnovate and Dermovate are both topical steroids, but they have different active ingredients. Betnovate has betamethasone valerate, which is a strong steroid. Dermovate contains 0.05% clobetasol propionate, a class 1 steroid, which is the strongest type. These steroids are typically prescribed for severe skin conditions that haven't improved with milder steroids.

In a study comparing the two treatments, patients using Dermovate experienced better skin improvement, and their skin stayed clear for a longer time.

While Dermovate is more effective, it should only be used for serious conditions, as strong steroids can lead to more side effects.

Is Betnovate the best treatment for dermatitis?

When treating dermatitis, there's no single 'best' option, as symptoms and severity vary for each person. If your inflammation is mild, Betnovate could be appropriate, but for more severe cases, a stronger steroid like Dermovate might be needed.

There are extra treatments that can speed up the healing of dermatitis. Emollients such as Hydromol can lock in moisture and stop your skin from drying out. Wet wrap therapy is also effective for easing inflammation and itchiness.

What are the side effects of Betnovate?

As with all medicines, Betnovate can cause some side effects. Common ones include a burning sensation, pain, or irritation where you've applied it.

If you stop using topical corticosteroids like Betnovate suddenly, you might experience withdrawal symptoms like burning and itching. To prevent this, it's best to gradually reduce your use.

Betnovate isn't suitable for everyone, and there are a few things you should keep in mind when using it.

Nice Fit
Color: Black, White, Light Gray, Size: 3X-Large
I picked this up looking for something simple but clean, and it delivered. The fit is comfortable, the material feels solid, and it looks good without needing much effort. It’s one of those pieces you can throw on and still look put together.

Good value, soft and comfortable
Color: Black, Army Green, Light Gray, Size: 4X-Large, Color: Black, Army Green, Light Gray, Size: 4X-Large
Initial thoughts are very positive with this 3 pack shirt set. The green is similar to an OD military green and the black and gray are standard color shades. Material is soft and sizes are true to size. The mock turtleneck isn’t too tight but may still be a little annoying to some people. I do question the amount of spandex in these shirts. Tag says 5% but these shirts are extremely stretchy and feels like a higher spandex content. It’s also a little tough to figure out which way is the front of the shirt. Visually rhe front does have a lower collar line than the back but would still be nice to have a brand tag printed in the back of the shirt for quicker identification. Overall for roughly $12 a shirt these are a good choice for everyday wear. I will update rating if these shirts fail to meet expectations after further use.

Just what I wanted.
Color: Black, Navy Blue, Wine Red, Size: 5X-Large
These may have just become my standard shirt to wear. Feels good whether tucked or out. Drapes well and fits well. So far, I can see it adjust to the different undershirt I may wear. Will probably order another set in other colors and a back up set of the basics because they will get worn a lot.

Its alright
Color: Black, Size: 5X-Large
True to size per the size chart. The fabric is soft but it it feels cheap to me. It attracts lint but you can brush it off easily so its not the cheapest material I've dealt with. Also, it is opaque (not see through). There is no front/ back indicator either which is indicative of a cheap shirt in my opinion. Would be friendly for tag sensitive people (to stay positive).
