Introduced in 1980s, the Canon AE-1 Program built upon the success of the original AE-1 by adding a fully automatic Program exposure mode alongside manual and shutter-priority operation. Known for its reliability, ease of use, and extensive FD lens compatibility, the AE-1 Program became one of the most popular film SLRs ever produced and remains a favourite among both beginners and experienced photographers.

The bright viewfinder, intuitive controls, and flexible exposure modes make it an excellent camera for learning film photography while still offering enough creative control for advanced users.

This camera uses standard 35mm (135) film, producing images in the 24 × 36 mm format.
