Old school winemaking techniques including open fermented and hand plunged fermentation techniques tried and tested for generations still show that time and care make a good wine. The wine is a deep blood crimson red, almost black. On the nose, there are lifted aromas of black pepper, violets, plum with hints of spice, pepper, cedar box, tobacco leaf and char. The palate is rich and luscious with a labyrinth of woven fruit and oak tannins that lingers in the mouth, with vibrant fruit flavours of black cherry, quince, mulberry, ripe plum and dark chocolate. Secondary characters of tobacco leaf and old leather create the fine dusty finish. It is an approachable and balanced yet complex wine.

Vintage 2021 in the Barossa is widely considered as excellent for now and the long term. Quality is exceptional across the varieties and styles with reds having intense, rich, and balanced flavours and colours and whites showing lovely aromatics, finesse, and great natural acidity. Veraison started in late January to early February, and the cooler conditions and some rain in early February helped to plump up berries and provide some relief to soil moisture profiles.
