These LOWA boots are EN ISO 20347 certified and are classified as occupational footwear. This means that at the very least they can be expected to offer a reasonable degree of protection against oil, water, and penetrative forces. Occupational footwear such as these also provide a degree of anti-static resistance and come with shock-absorbing heels as standard. In addition to these basic qualities, wearers of these LOWA Combat Boots benefit from a Vibram® "Tsavo” outsole and GORE-TEX® Performance Comfort membrane.

Made with a self-cleaning profile to help maximise grip, the Vibram® Tsavo’s cushioned midsole and undercut heel work to keep aches, pains, and fatigue away. Meanwhile, the GORE-TEX® lining prevents the effects of external hazards - such as wind, water, and snow - from reaching the wearer’s feet and affecting their ability to perform. These two technologies complement each other and the boot’s other qualities in order to produce an attractive all-rounder that has held the number one spot of the LOWA range for decades.

Time for me, and everyone, to change this default state. This review is just the start of a written reflection, a “thinking on paper” exercise, like my friend and great thinker Jean Moroney calls it.
