If Rodgers and Hammerstein hadn't existed, Broadway would have had to invent them; and Oklahoma! and Carousel came along just in time to announce the New Formula for Writing Musicals: Don't have a formula.Instead, start with strong characters and atmosphere: Oklahoma!'s murderous romantic triangle set against a frontier society that has to learn what democracy is in order to deserve it; or Carousel's dysfunctional family seen in the context of class and gender war.
With the vitality and occasionally outrageous humor that Ethan Mordden's readers take for granted, the author ranges through the decade's classics--Pal Joey, Lady in the Dark, On the Town, Annie Get Your Gun, Phinian's Rainbow, Brigadoon, Kiss Me, Kate, South Pacific. He also covers illuminating trivia--the spy thriller The Lady Comes Across, whose star got so into her role that she suffered paranoid hallucinations and had to be hospitalized; the smutty Follow the Girls, damned as "burlesque with a playbill" yet closing as the longest-run musical in Broadway history; Lute Song, in which Mary Martin and Nancy Reagan were Chinese; and the first "concept" musicals, Allegro and Love Life. Amid the fun, something revolutionary occurs. The 1920s created the musical and the 1930s gave it politics. In the 1940s, it found its soul.

These floating shelves are absolutely excellent quality. Everything from the packaging to the final product was top notch. The shelves arrived extremely well protected, and you could immediately tell the company takes pride in their product. The finish and craftsmanship are beautiful, the hardware feels solid, and installation was straightforward. Once mounted, they looked even better than expected and feel very sturdy. The golden oak finish adds a clean, modern, high end look to the room. Highly recommend if you’re looking for floating shelves that actually look and feel premium.

Clean Aesthetic, Limited Adjustment on Brackets

These shelves look really nice once installed—the natural wood finish gives a clean, high-end look that fits well with pretty much any space. Installation was straightforward and didn’t take much time, which I appreciated.
My only downside is the bracket design. I wish it had some kind of micro-adjustment option after drilling, because if your holes aren’t perfectly aligned the first time, it can be a bit frustrating to get everything level.
Overall though, still a solid product—sturdy, good quality, and definitely adds a nice aesthetic to the wall.

I used these shelves for my espresso area and I love them. The unboxing experience was so nice, it caught me off guard! Everything felt very handcrafted and sturdy. The finish on the real wood was very nice. It came with everything I needed for installation, which was very convenient. Installation was super easy and everything fit together perfectly. Having tried several shelves, this is by far the best product we have received. These shelves are real wood, well cut and prepared, with very easy installation and are quite stable. They look wonderful in the bedroom we purchased them for, and we like them so much that we have just order another set for another room. These shelves are well worth every penny, and came with a beautiful thank you card from the small business from whom we purchased them...we thank them!

Love these shelves. Hanging them was incredibly simple. They came with a level to really help ensure they were straight. Directions were precise and easy to understand. Took me longer to decide where and how I wanted to place them than it did to hang them. Literally took me 5 minutes to actually hang both shelves. They are smooth, easy to dust and look amazing in all lighting. They are packaged well so I had no missing pieces and no damage. Super strong hold and I love that the bottom of each shelf has a screw to secure the bracket to the shelf so they don't fall. Where I live, that is a major plus because we have a train that comes through regularly and they haven't loosened a bit. Super pleased with this product.
