Fighting Formations: US 29th Infantry Division is a tactical wargame that immerses players in combined-arms combat through the lens of one of WWII’s most iconic American divisions. Focusing on the US 29th Infantry Division-known as the "Blue and Gray"-this second volume in the Fighting Formations series follows their fierce engagements from the aftermath of D-Day in June 1944 through the closing months of that pivotal year.
In each scenario, players command detailed formations of the 29th or their adversaries, issuing orders to move, attack, or fulfill mission objectives across historically inspired battle maps. The game uses a dynamic initiative system, where each order costs initiative points from a shared pool, creating a tension-filled back-and-forth rhythm. The player with the most remaining initiative gains the advantage, making timing and resource management critical to success.
Fighting Formations: US 29th Infantry Division introduces specialized terrain, fortifications, and unit abilities unique to this division's operational experience in France, Holland, and Germany. While Asset cards add tactical options like artillery, air support, and demolitions, the game stays focused on map-based strategic movement and combat rather than card management.
With platoon- and squad-level units, a 75-meter hex scale, and five-minute turns, this stand-alone entry in the series delivers intense, historically grounded tactical gameplay.
