The Rega Strobe Kit is an essential accessory for turntable enthusiasts, designed to accurately evaluate the speed of any turntable. This hand-held strobe unit generates a 100 Hz pulsed light source and comes with a 180-line stroboscopic disc, making it easy to ensure your turntable is running at the correct speed.
How to Use the Rega Strobe Kit
- With your turntable running at 33⅓ RPM, place the stroboscopic disc directly onto your turntable mat.
- Hold the strobe approximately 2-3 centimeters from the lines on the disc.
- If the lines on the disc appear frozen and remain stable, your turntable is running at the correct speed.
- If the lines move slowly clockwise, the turntable is running fast. If they move anticlockwise, the turntable is running slow.
- For adjustable turntables, adjust the speed until the lines are stable.
Tips for Accuracy
For the most accurate reading, hold a reference point such as a pencil tip near the lines during rotation. This helps you easily detect whether the lines are stable or moving. If your turntable’s speed is adjustable, you can fine-tune it until the lines freeze perfectly.
Advice for Non-Adjustable Rega Turntables
If your turntable does not have adjustable speed settings, we recommend first trying a new drive belt. Over time, drive belts may stretch and cause minor speed variations. For significant speed issues, check the bearing oil in the central hub and ensure that the steel ball bearing is present in the brass bearing housing (not required for RP8 or RP10 models). For further assistance, contact your Rega dealer or distributor for service or replacement parts.
