- The poetry inherent in Lega spiritual belief is manifest in all objects attached to the Initiation Rituals of the Bwami Society. The Bwami is a closed Men's Organization with Graded Membership and complex Initiation Rites that impose a high moral and philosophical code. Above all, it teaches co-operation amongst its Members.
- According to Vogel (1988: 90), Lega "sculptures are elements of Ritual Paraphernalia [...]. As proverbs are recited to the Initiates by Senior Members, the Figures are held up as mnemonics." The aphorism most often connected to Figures like the our example above featuring multiple heads surmounting an "elephant's foot" pedestal, are generally known as Sakimatwematwe.
- Sakimatwematwe roughly translates to "Mr. Many-Heads who has seen an elephant on the other side of the large river" (Biebuyck 1973: 220).
- "A hunter goes across a great river, sees an elephant on the other bank, returns to look for other hunters to help, but when he returns he finds that the others have already killed the elephant" (de Kun 1966: 88). This aphorism points to the inability of the Individual to accomplish a great task alone, and to the greater good that lies in the Community. Rather than starting an effort on his own, the hunter acts wisely in looking for help and eventually gets the task accomplished without any physical effort of his own. Another interpretation is that the Bwami Society enables its Members through Initiation to see in many different directions; a metaphor for the "Wisdom, Fairness and Omniscience of the Initiate" (Biebuyck 1973: 221).

Exactly what I needed for my bathroom refresh.

I bought these floating shelves in the color Rustic Brown to replace a bulky storage shelf that was making my bathroom feel cramped, and they completely transformed the space. The wood finish looks much more expensive than I expected, and once installed they gave the bathroom a clean, modern, spa-like feel without taking up visual space.
Installation was straightforward overall. I mounted one screw in the center into a stud and used drywall anchors for the remaining hardware, and the shelves feel very sturdy. They sit flush against the wall and don’t sag or wobble. I especially love how slim they are while still being deep enough to hold everyday bathroom items, decor, candles, skincare, and small baskets.
The color worked perfectly with my bathroom vanity and mirror trim, and the floating design instantly made the room look more organized and intentional. Huge upgrade for a small space.
Definitely recommend if you want functional storage that also looks elevated and minimalist.

Good Shelves

These shelves are really nice quality and look as advertised. The hardware included was great quality, metal drywall anchors and good screws. They were easy to install, and make even/level with each other. My only gripe is the price, but I'm very satisfied with the product overall.

These are pretty doggone nice shelves and I appreciate the fact that they are not made of solid particle board. Yes they are made of an engineered product, but they are lightweight and strong…and look better than particle board products and more costly than their actual price.
Easy installation system with the bracket…not fussy like some are.
An especially thoughtful touch is the variety of hardware that is included. Also a tiny level for use when installing them. What? …So they can be installed correctly? I was pleasantly surprised by this inclusion.
