Charred Pine & Emperador Marble SidetablesWe were commissioned to create bedside tables for an elegant bedroom. Because of the colors of the bedroom, we decided on charred pine & Emperador Marble. The pine (sustainably sourced from New Zealand) undergoes blow torching in the Japanese Yaki sugi technique. The heat deepens the channels between the grains of the pine, & forces resin to the surface, which acts as a protective layer. After this, a dark stain is added to create the black finish.
