Organic Merino Wool for Wet and Needle Felting
Filges organic merino felting wool is a plant-dyed, Bioland-certified wool batting from Germany, especially well suited to wet felting while remaining versatile for dry needle felting and detailed work.
Prepared from 100% kbT Bioland merino wool, this batting is gently washed and hand-carded to preserve fiber openness and responsiveness. The wool felts smoothly and evenly with water, heat, and agitation, making it a reliable choice for wet-felted forms, backgrounds, and layered work.
Naturally dyed using plants and food-safe mordants, the colors carry the soft variation and depth characteristic of plant-dyed fibers. This material is well suited to Waldorf-inspired handwork, nature-based storytelling, and seasonal projects where material integrity and process matter.
Wet Felting and Needle Felting Use
Merino wool’s fine fibers and shorter staple length allow it to migrate and interlock efficiently during wet felting, producing strong, cohesive fabric with predictable shrinkage. It is commonly used for bowls, mats, vessels, slippers, and smooth background layers.
This single-color merino wool is ideal when you need specific colors for elements or layered work. For broader palettes or projects that benefit from multiple coordinated colors, our assorted Filges Organic Merino Felting Wool offers the same fiber preparation in a thoughtfully curated range

Notes on plant-dyed color
Plant dyes are inherently alive. Color may vary slightly from batch to batch due to season, harvest conditions, and plant origin — even when the same plant species is used and within the same batch. These colors coordinate beautifully with Filges plant-dyed yarns, though they are not exact matches. Natural plant dyes interact uniquely with different wool types and fiber preparations, resulting in organic variation that is expected and celebrated.
Safety Note:
⚠️ WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small Parts. Keep away from children under 3 yrs.
Children who still put things in their mouth could bite off a small amount of wool and then either inhale or choke on the wool.
