The Aaland Sofa is the grand centerpiece of Patricia Urquiola’s 2024–2026 "archipelago" vision. Inspired by the soft, weathered curves of the Åland Islands, this sofa is designed to look like a cluster of smooth river stones, naturally arranged to provide a sanctuary of rest. Moving away from the traditional, rigid "box" structure of a sofa, Urquiola has created a soft, seamless topography. The Aaland Sofa features a low profile and high-volume cushions that appear to merge into one another. Its silhouette is entirely devoid of sharp angles, promoting a sense of flow and psychological calm—ideal for the contemporary "wellness-focused" home. Consistent with the "Kartell Loves the Planet" initiative, the Aaland Sofa is as sustainable as it is sophisticated: Upholstered in a curated selection of 100% recycled fabrics. Despite its delicate, rounded appearance, the internal frame is reinforced to maintain its sculptural integrity over time, making it suitable for both high-end residential and luxury commercial spaces.
