A 14k gold bezel surrounds a cast glass scarab with a beautiful iridescent surface similar to the favrile glass used by Tiffany & Co. Atop the scarab is a goddess adorned with a head dress. Though the piece was made in 1980, the figure has an Egyptian Revival Art Nouveau sensibility, and is modeled after the maidens that often appeared in jewelry during the turn of the century. The scarab’s iridescent body seems to glow as it shimmers with hues of purple, blue, green, and gold. The piece is striking and imbues magic, transformation, and feminine power.
The back of the glass is signed by the artist. We can’t make out the name, but it is dated 1980. The piece tests as 14k gold. It measures 1 5/8” x 5/8” x 1/4” and weighs 7.2 grams. It has a wide bail that measures 7 x 8 mm and can fit a thicker chain.
