Native to North America, elderberries thrive in USDA Zones 4–9, adapting well to a wide range of soils and climates. These vigorous, productive plants are easy to grow and quickly form attractive hedgerows or wildlife-friendly plantings that bear fruit year after year.

  • Fertilize annually in spring with compost or a balanced fertilizer
  • Prune out dead or weak canes in late winter
  • Pollination: Plant at least two different elderberry varieties within 50 ft for best fruit set
