This course begins by examining what is special about today’s adult learners, followed by a comparison between the andragogical model and the pedagogical model. You will explore the assumptions that underlie the pedagogical model, how and why people learn, and the assumptions behind the andragogical model. This section explains how adult learners are self-directed, how they bring personal and professional experiences into training, and how adults become ready to learn when they perceive a clear need to know or do something. You will explore why adults want immediate, real-world applications and how they are motivated to learn. This section concludes with an in-depth exploration of the principles of adult learning, various learning styles, and available learning style assessments.
