Directions - Apply sparingly to affected joints and muscles. Avoid using on sensitive or broken skin. Wash hands after use to help avoid getting in the eyes because it contains cayenne and essential oils so will cause temporary stinging.

Active ingredients:

Comfrey - has been used for thousands of years to heal and soothe damaged tissues and has been listed in the British Pharmacopoeia as a treatment for skin and internal wounds, as well as ulcers.  One of the healing constituents of the plant, allantoin, has been synthesised by the pharmaceutical industry to use as skin healing agent for the very uses for which comfrey was well known - to stimulate and hasten wound healing!  Comfrey is an approved medicine in Germany today for treating bruises, sprains and joint problems for which it has been shown to be as effective, if not better than, pharmaceutical pain relief.  It is also anti-inflammatory.  It was called “knitbone” because its active constituents can be absorbed right down from the skin into the underlying tissues, including bones.

Cayenne - is beneficial in two ways in Thyme Heal’s Sports Injury Rub.  It firstly increases the flow of blood into an injury encouraging the body to heal itself more quickly and effectively.  Secondly it helps to reduce pain by its numbing affect on nerves. 

Arnica - was an official pharmaceutical and can still be found today in pharmacies in many countries.  It is anti-inflammatory, increases the flow of blood to heal injured tissues more quickly and has been demonstrated to reduce pain.  It effectively helps to resolve bruising more quickly both on skin and at a deeper level.

Hypericum - is an extrordinary traditional healing herb; in this formula it reduces nerve pain such as is felt in sciatica.  Hypericum has been used for a wide range of complaints both internally and externally for hundreds of years. 

Wintergreen Oil - is one of the richest sources of salicylates in nature - the active ingredient in aspirin.  This oil was an important ingredient of medicinal liniments because it effectively relieves pain, reduces inflammation and also stimulates increased blood supply to injured skin, muscles and ligaments. 

Clove, Rosemary, Juniper and Peppermint oils - all contribute to increasing blood supply to help speed up natural healing by the body.  They also have pain-relieving actions.
