Totem Signature One Standmount Loudspeaker at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The Signature One is a 2-way reflex-loaded standmount loudspeaker from Totem Acoustic (Montreal, Quebec, Canada), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Created to celebrate Totem's 30th anniversary in 2017, the Signature One is the definitive evolution of the iconic Model 1 — the speaker that launched Totem in 1987 and established the company's reputation for overachieving performance from compact enclosures. Its driver array upgrades the original Model 1's 5.5" woofer to a 6.5" mineral-infused woofer with a 3-inch voice coil, derived from the Totem Forest, paired with a 1" aluminum-titanium dome tweeter in a rear chamber. A handmade crossover at 2.5kHz uses Orange Drop bypasses, ClarityCap specialty paper/oil capacitors, large air-core inductors, and tightly matched resistors — wired with Teflon-coated 80% OFC copper and 20% silver internal cable. With an 87.5dB sensitivity, an 8-ohm nominal impedance, and a frequency response from 45Hz to 22kHz ±3dB, the Signature One is sold as a pair in Black Ash, Mahogany, Sapele, or Satin White. The Absolute Sound described the Signature One's 3D imaging as "the real pièce de résistance," while Stereophile, SoundStage! Hi-Fi, and The Music Room all published full reviews.

Forest-Derived 6.5" Woofer and Reference Crossover Components

The Signature One's most significant engineering advance over the original Model 1 is its 6.5" woofer, sourced from Totem's Forest floorstanding speaker and modified for standmount use. Equipped with an oversized 3-inch voice coil and a neodymium magnet in an underhung motor configuration, this driver provides more dynamic potential than the 5.5" woofer used in the original Model 1, with Totem claiming it can handle 600-watt transients without damage. The crossover network is a precisely engineered handmade assembly that The Absolute Sound described in detail: the woofer section uses Orange Drop capacitors bypassing specialised foil capacitors, while the tweeter section uses ClarityCap specialty grade high-voltage, metal-encapsulated paper/oil capacitors for an uncoloured sonic character. A mix of very low-tolerance tightly matched resistors from Dale, RCD, and Archromic achieve phase consistency on all dimensional axes, and large air-core inductors with no magnets or iron core prevent saturation on dynamic peaks. Internal wiring uses Teflon-coated conductors combining 80% OFC copper and 20% silver. The crossover is assembled without printed circuit boards, with components hard-wired point-to-point and secured by WBT silver solder.

Lock-Mitered Monocoque Cabinet and Borosilicate Dampening

The Signature One's cabinet is constructed using lock-miter joinery, in which the edges physically interlock to create a monocoque structure significantly stronger than conventional V-groove assembly. The cabinet uses an aerodynamic rounded front baffle that reduces edge diffraction around the driver openings, with drivers flush-mounted into the baffle for an unobstructed radiation pattern. The angled rear baffle eliminates the front-to-back parallel surface that would otherwise generate internal standing waves. Extensive internal cross-bracing with a radically angled internal floor reinforces the cabinet against the mechanical forces generated by the 6.5" woofer's underhung motor system at high excursion levels. The inner surfaces are treated with Borosilicate dampening, the glass compound Totem applies across its Element and Forest families for acoustic energy management that never deteriorates. On the rear panel, a low-resonance annealed aluminum connection plate carries gold-plated WBT bi-wire binding posts, a terminal system identical to that used on the Forest. SoundStage! Hi-Fi found the Signature One required approximately 150 hours of break-in to fully open up, after which the reviewer experienced "a radical" transformation in sound quality.

Key Features

  • 6.5" Mineral-Infused Forest-Derived Woofer: A 3-inch voice coil underhung motor woofer derived from the Totem Forest, with neodymium magnet and claimed 600-watt transient handling capability, extending bass to 45Hz in a compact standmount cabinet.
  • 1" Aluminum-Titanium Dome Tweeter (SEAS): A SEAS-sourced tweeter extensively modified at Totem's facility, with an aluminum/titanium alloy dome in a rear chamber that reduces resonances and provides driver isolation.
  • Reference Crossover Components: A handmade crossover using ClarityCap paper/oil capacitors with Orange Drop bypasses, large air-core inductors, and tightly matched Dale/RCD/Archromic resistors for phase accuracy on all dimensional axes.
  • Teflon-Coated 80% OFC Copper / 20% Silver Internal Wiring: Custom made Teflon-jacketed internal cable combining OFC copper and silver conductors for low resistance and low capacitance signal paths through the cabinet.
  • Lock-Mitered Monocoque Cabinet Construction: Physically interlocking edge joinery with extensive internal cross-bracing and a radically angled internal floor produces an exceptionally rigid enclosure for a standmount of this size.
  • Aerodynamic Rounded Front Baffle: Rounded baffle edges reduce diffraction coloration, with flush-mounted woofer and tweeter for an unobstructed radiation pattern.
  • Borosilicate Internal Dampening: Industry-unique internal coating that manages acoustic energy without the deterioration or energy storage issues of conventional poly fill materials.
  • Annealed Aluminum Terminal Plate with Gold WBT Bi-Wire Posts: A low-resonance annealed aluminum rear panel carries gold-plated WBT binding posts for single-wire and bi-wire cable configurations.
  • 87.5dB Sensitivity, 8-Ohm Impedance: An 8-ohm nominal impedance makes the Signature One more amplifier-friendly than the 4-ohm original Model 1, compatible with quality valve amplifiers from 50 watts upward.
  • 100-150 Hour Break-In Recommended: The Signature One's woofer and crossover components require substantial break-in time to reach their designed operating parameters, with the most significant improvement occurring between 100 and 150 hours.
  • Four Finishes Available: Black Ash, Mahogany, Sapele, and Satin White veneers, with the Mahogany finish paying direct homage to the original Model 1's classic appearance.
  • Magnetic Grilles Included: Tool-free magnetic grilles for driver protection and a clean visual profile.
  • Designed and Built in Canada: Every Signature One is designed and manufactured by Totem Acoustic in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Totem Signature One?

The Totem Signature One is a 2-way reflex-loaded standmount loudspeaker designed and built in Montreal, Quebec, Canada by Totem Acoustic to celebrate the company's 30th anniversary in 2017. It is available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. It features a 6.5" mineral-infused woofer with a 3-inch voice coil derived from the Totem Forest, a 1" aluminum-titanium dome tweeter in a rear chamber, and a handmade crossover using ClarityCap paper/oil capacitors, Orange Drop bypasses, and large air-core inductors. Key specifications include 87.5dB sensitivity, 8-ohm nominal impedance, and a frequency response from 45Hz to 22kHz ±3dB. The Signature One was reviewed by Stereophile, The Absolute Sound, and SoundStage! Hi-Fi, with TAS describing its 3D imaging as "the real pièce de résistance." Sold as a pair in Black Ash, Mahogany, Sapele, or Satin White.

How does the Totem Signature One differ from the original Model 1?

The Totem Signature One is substantially larger and more capable than the original Model 1 it celebrates. The cabinet has grown by approximately 1.5 inches in each dimension, and weight has more than doubled from the Model 1's 9 lbs to 19 lbs per speaker. The woofer has been upgraded from the original's 5.5" driver to a 6.5" mineral-infused woofer derived from the Forest speaker, with a 3-inch voice coil and neodymium motor. The nominal impedance has been changed from the 4-ohm Model 1 to 8 ohms, making the Signature One considerably more amplifier-friendly. The crossover has been rebuilt with reference passive components including ClarityCap capacitors, Orange Drop bypasses, Dale/RCD/Archromic resistors, and large air-core inductors. Internal wiring uses Teflon-coated 80% copper/20% silver conductors. The annealed aluminum terminal plate with gold WBT bi-wire posts replaces the Model 1's single-pair terminal arrangement.

How does the Totem Signature One compare to the ProAc Tablette 10 and the Harbeth P3ESR XD?

The Totem Signature One, the ProAc Tablette 10, and the Harbeth P3ESR XD are three of the most respected compact standmount loudspeakers available, each representing a distinct design tradition and sonic priority. The Signature One uses a 6.5" Forest-derived woofer with a 3-inch voice coil and a reference handmade crossover with ClarityCap and Orange Drop components in a lock-mitered monocoque cabinet with Borosilicate dampening, prioritising wide and tall 3D imaging, dynamic energy, and musical involvement. The ProAc Tablette 10 uses a SEAS tweeter and a custom woofer in a front-ported design, delivering ProAc's characteristic midrange warmth and vocal richness in a smaller enclosure. The Harbeth P3ESR XD uses Harbeth's RADIAL cone technology in a BBC-legacy sealed-enclosure design, with a natural and tonally precise character that differs fundamentally from the Totem's more forward and dynamic presentation. The Absolute Sound confirmed that the Signature One's imaging "surpasses far more expensive monitors and floorstanding speakers" in the depth and precision of its three-dimensional soundstage.

Why does the Totem Signature One require 100-150 hours of break-in?

The Signature One's extended break-in requirement reflects the mechanical characteristics of its 6.5" woofer's suspension system. The underhung motor woofer derived from the Forest uses a suspension material that requires substantial movement over time to reach its designed compliance and operating parameters. SoundStage! Hi-Fi noted the most extreme break-in experience of their reviewing career with the Signature One, with the speaker sounding thin, abrasive, and unsatisfying for several weeks before transforming into a speaker with "newfound silkiness and lithe, top-to-bottom sinuousness" seemingly overnight. Totem recommends playing the speaker continuously at moderate levels through the break-in period. Using the speakers for background music, television audio, or noncritical listening during this period allows the break-in to proceed without requiring attentive listening sessions in the initial weeks.

What amplifier works best with the Totem Signature One?

The Totem Signature One has an 87.5dB sensitivity and an 8-ohm nominal impedance, compatible with amplifiers from 50 to 200 watts including quality valve designs. The 8-ohm impedance is more amplifier-friendly than the 4-ohm original Model 1, and The Absolute Sound's reviewer used the Signature One with a wide range of amplification. Stereophile's reviewer found it worked effectively with a PrimaLuna ProLogue Premium tube power amplifier paired with a Rogue Audio preamplifier. The Signature One's revealing nature means it will reflect the character of upstream components clearly, so quality amplification investment is rewarded. SoundStage! Hi-Fi used Nordost Tyr 2 speaker cables, while The Music Room found it performed well with both high-end separates and more accessible integrated amplifier pairings.

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.

Interesting
Format: Kindle
So I will say I enjoyed the story, for sure had its moments where it dragged but it was a great story. I really liked that omegas picked their alphas/make the pack. Normally the Alphas make it and the omega fits in with them which is great but I enjoyed this new version where all the power basically went to the omega. It was a nice change of pace. I can admit some of the weird bedroom stuff with her being pregnant was odd, it’s really not hard to do stuff when pregnant (I know I’ve had two and it’s normal and even encouraged at the end especially if you want the baby out). But I like the story as a whole and will read the second, I do hope the next one isn’t dragged bc it stopped being action or tense after she met her alphas and I don’t think it was brought up or properly done when they tried to do it. More sweet after she left.

I’m a little disappointed.
Format: Kindle
I usually like Jillian West’s books but this one was missing a lot for me. The pregnancy didn’t come across as real. She’s on her feet for 12 hour days but is perfectly healthy at 8 months pregnant? Yet the week she moves in all of a sudden she’s not? She is planning on actually running during one of the plot buildups. But at 8 months pregnant that’s incredibly hard to do. The lack of breathing ability and lung space, the change in body center, mass, and gravity. All of it prohibits running, unless you’re an athlete this didn’t come off as at all realistic. I didn’t feel any connection with the alphas. There wasn’t any emotional connection. It could be because of the tense it was written in. But I didn’t get any deep feelings out of this. It came across as checking off boxes. Even the spicy scenes weren’t really believable for me. I wanted to see them fall for her, and it just kind of all fizzled. Even Bishop. One thing I did really like was the ending. I did not see it coming and I’m interested in reading book two because of it. But on the whole this book was mostly disappointing for me.

Vale is an 8 month pregnant omega working as a waitress at a strip club and a cam girl. She starts to get very creepy vibes from a regular at the club, and her baby daddy ghosted her. She has had an online relationship with a man named Bishop through her cam girl status. One night, bishop was paying to watch her sleep and ansthe creepy regular Andrew break in and watch her sleep he tells vale to come to him at his business now. She flees and finds herself at a large security company with some.hot of alphas who are there to help her. This imegaverse is a little different than I have read, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. Vale is not a traditional omega she was raised by a single beta mom, and the alphas are not normal alphas they have never really loved pack life. But they are ruthless mercenaries. They need her, and she needs them. I love the aspect of the stalker and now the plot twists at the end, so so good. Sometimes, it seemed a little slow and stale mated, but since this a duet, I think It was just her starting to have Vale get to know her alpha suitors. Cliffhanger for sure with this one.
