The theme of 'the purpose of existence’ was present throughout the design process of JND Geralt of Rivia. The protagonist, Geralt, in the series, was 'created' for the purpose of hunting monsters. We wanted our latest work to be sort of a gift for the Witcher fans. We also wanted non-Witcher fans to be able to understand the general idea of the character with one look at this piece. This became the idea behind the concept of the design. There’s Geralt, there’s a monster, then there’s a sword that links them together. The monster and Geralt are enemies, but without the monster, Geralt would have never been born. They are codependent creatures.
We tried to encompass the likeness of Henry Cavill and his passion in this piece. Geralt is a hero who hunts monsters. But he’s not welcomed by the people. We worked over and over to try to get his facial expression right and capture his strength as well as his loneliness. With the wardrobe, we attempted to get the texture and the thickness of the fabric correctly. The accessories, such as the potion bottle and the sword, had to be accurate. This piece is more massive because of the monster’s head on the base. We couldn’t miss the details in the base, so a lot of work went into the eyes of the monster, which was multilayered, the numerous fangs inside the mouth, and the sliced part of the head that shows the insides.
