בכמה שבטים אפריקאים, הודו וגם איראן, סירי חרס משמשים כלי הקשה. סיר החימר, בחלקו אידיופון ובאופן חלקי אירופון, הוא אותו סיר ששימש באופן מסורתי לנשיאה ושמירה על מים, אך היה לו גם תפקיד של כלי נגינה. למרות צורתו הפשוטה, יש לו יכולת משמעותית בנגינת מקצבים מסוגים שונים.

Kuzeh (איראן)
בבלוצ'סטאן מנגנים שני קוזות עם מגש מתכת. השילוב הזה, מכשיר האידיופון הוותיק ביותר בבלוצ'סטן, ידוע בכינוי Kuzak & Tal. הקוזה לעולם לא מושמע בנפרד. במקום זאת, זה תמיד מלווה בפלטה. השחקן יכול לשנות את המגרש על ידי הוספת מים לסירי החימר הללו.

ניגריה (אודו)
פירוש המילה Udu הוא כלי חרס ושלום בשפת האיגבו (שבט בדרום-מזרח ניגריה). יש לו שמות רבים ושונים בניגריה, בהתאם לאזורי השבטים והטקסים בהם הוא משמש. "Abang mbre" או "סיר לנגינה" הוא השם המיוחס לו בדרך כלל. כלי החרס ושאר פריטי הקודש הופכים למדיום לרוחות, אבות ואלים. האיגבו מבצע לפניהם תפילות והקרבות כדי לרצות את הרוחות ולבקש מהם עזרה והכוונה. במהלך טקסים אלה, מאמינים כי הקולות העמוקים של תופי אודו הם "קולות האבות". באופן מסורתי, רק נשות איגבו מייצרות אודוס וכלי חרס אחרים, מכיוון שכלי חרס מסוכנים מדי לגברים. החימר הדרוש נאסף במקומות קדושים. הימצאותו של גבר באותם נקודות סודיות תהיה עבירה חמורה ותגרום לו להיות חסר אונים. כיום, צלילי הסירים המוזיקליים מהללים את אלוהים בכנסיות, מכיוון שבימינו רוב האיגבוסים הם נוצרים. אפילו הגברים שלהם מנגנים זאת ללא פחד כדי לבדר את הקהל בברים.

הודו (Ghatam)
Ghatam בסנסקריט פירושו pot & הוא אחד מכלי ההקשה העתיקים ביותר ששימשו במוזיקה הקרנטית של דרום הודו. האנלוגיה שלו ברג'סטאן ידועה בשם madga & pani mataqa (קנקן מים). אף על פי שהג'אתם זהה לצורת סיר חרס ביתי רגיל, הוא מיועד במיוחד לנגינה ככלי.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
