Aural History: Preservation Hall & The Preservation Hall Jazz Band
by Terrance Osborne

In 1963, Allan Jaffe organized the Preservation Hall Jazz Band as a touring group to bring this joyous noise to the world. By 1967, the Band had seduced the beast that nearly devoured New Orleans jazz, triumphantly playing alongside The Grateful Dead, Santana, and Steppenwolf at a Bill Graham concert in San Francisco.  A 50-year old band will have some personnel changes over the years but this band probably sets the record at 46 members and counting. And in a city of legacies, none is more poignant than that the tuba chair has been passed to Allan and Sandra’s son, Ben Jaffe, who also mans the upright bass in the Band’s current eight-man lineup.

This, Osborne’s fourth poster for art4now (CS07CS10JF12), shows his continuing evolution as an artist, leveraging his vigorous style to reveal his subject’s depth. His shrewd use of a trump l’oeil sleight to preserve the buildings’ orthogonal geometry and maintain the Band’s vertical plane is masterful. His allegory of the band emerging from its historic home binds the two and alludes to its going on tour as if a marching band, a heritage it shares but does not embody. From the smallest details, such as including the house cat, to his placing Ben Jaffe, Allan Jaffe’s son who ascended to his father’s tuba position, overseeing the band’s arc – a curve that pulls the viewer deep into the Hall – Osborne delivers history with knowing grace.

Works good. Too good. If you’re not a pro, you’ll mess it all up. The headliner is up in the beater. But YouTube lied about how easy it is to use this stuff. Very sticky!! Easy to use. Easy to wrinkle the headliner too and just wad it all up. But oh well. It’s a beater. Nuff said.

Just get the Permatex for a better "spray on", both cans I bought required way too much effort in shaking between spraying. I did shake the can well before use.

Best choice! Absolutely necessary for anything above basic stock bass.
Bonded to services well, completely removed panel reverberation in my tacoma. Also really made the doors so much quieter even when closing. Very happy with the result. Used only one set on my 01 tacoma 4 door. Installed inside doors on exterior skin panel, over interior door panel access holes (sealing the door to provide backpressure to door speakers (left drains open)), roof panel, and back wall of cab. Achieved about 70% coverage and am very happy. 2 8in SKAR SVR8 at 1oh on walmart power acustic 2500 (only rated to ~800rms at 2oh, forum showed testing at 1oh worked about 1kw) in 6th order with blow through into cab. With cab gain, im over 130db between ~30 and ~50hz. This was a necessary addition!
