Arcam AVR11 HDMI 2.1 AV Receiver at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The AVR11 is a high-performance AV receiver from Arcam (Cambridge, United Kingdom), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Part of Arcam's HDA series and a member of the Harman International group, the AVR11 brings 7 channels of audiophile-grade Class AB amplification derived directly from Arcam's celebrated stereo amplifier lineage, paired with native 12-channel decoding of Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D for true immersive surround. Dual ESS 9026PRO audiophile DACs with ESS reference voltage regulators underpin the signal chain, while Dirac Live room correction is included as standard with a calibrated microphone. HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3 across all seven inputs supports 8K at 60fps and 4K at 120fps with VRR and ALLM for gaming, and the AVR11 is Roon Ready with native Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Apple Airplay 2, Google Chromecast, and Bluetooth aptX HD. The AVR11 is the entry point to Arcam's HDMI 2.1 receiver range and the most accessible way to experience the brand's renowned musicality in a full home cinema system.

Class AB Amplification Derived from Arcam Stereo Amplifiers

The defining characteristic of the AVR11 within the AV receiver category is its amplifier section. Arcam engineers the AVR11's 7-channel Class AB amplifier stage from the same circuit architecture used in Arcam's dedicated stereo integrated amplifiers, prioritizing tonal accuracy, dynamic range, and musical engagement rather than simply maximizing rated output figures. An over-engineered power supply and transformer, which contributes significantly to the AVR11's substantial 37-pound chassis weight for a receiver in this category, delivers clean, stable current that sustains dynamic transients without compression or clipping under demanding multi-channel loads. The result is a receiver that reproduces both music and movie soundtracks with a warmth, detail, and imaging coherence that conventional mass-market AV receivers at similar power ratings cannot match. Reviewers who have auditioned the AVR11 alongside its Arcam siblings consistently note that even the entry-level model retains the musical character the brand has cultivated over nearly five decades of amplifier design.

Native 12-Channel Immersive Audio Decoding: Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D

The AVR11 decodes all three major immersive audio formats natively across 12 channels, enabling speaker configurations up to 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X layouts. The five additional decoding channels beyond the seven powered outputs can drive height or surround speakers via the optional Arcam PA410 four-channel power amplifier, enabling a full 7.4.1 immersive configuration without replacing the AVR11 as the processing and amplification core. Auro-3D support adds the layered height-channel format favored by many listeners for orchestral and acoustic music content. IMAX Enhanced, Dolby Surround upmixing, Dolby Virtual Height, DTS Neural:X, and DTS Virtual:X are also included, ensuring compatibility with every major surround processing format available on current streaming services and physical media.

Dual ESS 9026PRO DACs and Dirac Live Room Correction Included

The AVR11 uses the same dual ESS 9026PRO audiophile DAC configuration with ESS reference voltage regulators found across the entire Arcam HDA AV product range, ensuring a consistent and high-performance digital-to-analog conversion foundation regardless of entry point in the lineup. Dirac Live room correction is included with the AVR11 as standard, including a calibrated measurement microphone, making it one of the most complete out-of-box room correction solutions available in an AV receiver at this price. Dirac Live's linear phase correction approach addresses both frequency response and impulse response simultaneously, delivering tighter bass, more stable surround imaging, and improved dialogue clarity in any listening environment. Three filter slots allow different correction curves to be stored and recalled for different listening scenarios. Dirac Live Bass Control for single-subwoofer optimization is available as a separately purchased licence upgrade from Dirac Research.

HDMI 2.1 with 8K, 4K Gaming, and eARC

All seven HDMI inputs on the AVR11 are HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3, supporting 8K at 60fps and 4K at 120fps pass-through for the highest-resolution content from current streaming services, Blu-ray players, and gaming consoles including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) are both supported for connected gaming devices, reducing input lag and screen tearing in high-frame-rate gaming scenarios. HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG are all passed through without processing. The eARC-compatible HDMI output simplifies audio return from an eARC-equipped television, and the two HDMI outputs accommodate a primary display and a secondary Zone 2 display simultaneously.

Integrated Streaming: Roon Ready, MQA, and Multi-Platform Support

The AVR11 integrates a comprehensive streaming platform with native Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Apple Airplay 2, Google Chromecast built-in, Bluetooth aptX HD, and UPnP via the free MusicLife iOS and Android app. Roon Ready certification enables the AVR11 to function as a full Roon endpoint for high-resolution library management and playback, and MQA decoding is supported for Tidal Master-quality streaming. Bluetooth aptX HD provides near-lossless wireless connectivity from smartphones and tablets, while Airplay 2 and Chromecast cover both Apple and Android wireless ecosystems without requiring an additional streaming device. Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet are both available for network connectivity, and RS232 and IR control ports provide integration with professional control automation systems including Crestron, Control4, Elan, URC, RTI, and Savant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Arcam AVR11?

The Arcam AVR11 is an HDMI 2.1 AV receiver from Arcam, a British audio manufacturer based in Cambridge, UK, and part of the Harman International group. It delivers 7 channels of Class AB amplification at 80 watts per channel into 8 ohms, natively decodes 12 channels of Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Auro-3D, uses dual ESS 9026PRO DAC chips, and includes Dirac Live room correction with a calibrated measurement microphone. All seven HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1 with HDCP 2.3, supporting 8K at 60fps and 4K at 120fps. The AVR11 is the entry-level HDMI 2.1 model in Arcam's HDA AV receiver range, positioned above the AVR5 and below the AVR21 and AVR31.

How does the Arcam AVR11 compare to the Denon AVC-X3800H and Marantz Cinema 70s?

The Arcam AVR11, Denon AVC-X3800H, and Marantz Cinema 70s compete at broadly similar price points as HDMI 2.1 AV receivers with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, but each takes a fundamentally different approach to amplification. The AVR11's 7-channel Class AB amplifier is derived from Arcam's stereo integrated amplifier circuit architecture, prioritizing tonal accuracy and musical engagement over raw power ratings. The Denon AVC-X3800H delivers 9 channels of onboard amplification at 105 watts, uses Audyssey MultEQ XT32 for room correction, and is widely regarded for its measured performance and broad feature set at a competitive price. The Marantz Cinema 70s uses HDAM discrete amplifier modules for a characteristically warm, musical presentation but at only 50 watts per channel. The AVR11's primary differentiator is its inclusion of Dirac Live rather than Audyssey or Marantz's proprietary correction, which many audiophiles consider the most accurate room correction system available in the AV receiver category.

Can the Arcam AVR11 be expanded to a full Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 system?

Yes, the AVR11 is designed with future expansion in mind. Its 12-channel native decoding capability exceeds the 7 channels of onboard amplification, and the additional five decoded channels can be routed to the optional Arcam PA410 four-channel external power amplifier. This allows the AVR11 to drive a full 7.4.1 Dolby Atmos configuration with four dedicated height or overhead speakers, transforming a 5.1 or 7.1 system into a complete immersive layout without replacing the AVR11 as the system's processing and primary amplification core. This expandability makes the AVR11 a practical long-term investment for listeners who want to grow their system over time.

What is Dirac Live and is it included with the AVR11?

Dirac Live is a software-based room correction system from Dirac Research (Sweden) that uses a laptop-based acoustic measurement process to design linear phase correction filters addressing both frequency response and impulse response simultaneously. Unlike simpler EQ-based correction, Dirac Live improves timing accuracy and stereo imaging alongside frequency balance, producing tighter bass, more precise surround localization, and greater overall clarity in any room. Dirac Live is included with the AVR11 as standard, and a calibrated measurement microphone is also included in the box. Three filter memory slots allow different correction curves for different listening scenarios. Dirac Live Bass Control for single-subwoofer optimization is available as an optional separately purchased licence from the Dirac website.

Does the Arcam AVR11 support 4K gaming at 120fps and VRR?

Yes, the AVR11's HDMI 2.1 inputs support 4K at 120fps and 8K at 60fps pass-through, with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) both enabled for connected gaming devices. This makes the AVR11 fully compatible with current-generation gaming consoles including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and with gaming PCs outputting high-frame-rate content. HDR gaming formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG are all passed through without alteration, preserving the full dynamic range and color metadata from the source.

Glow and play - pups favorite!
Color: A) 2-Pack (2.5" Balls)
I can't say enough good things about this glowing fetch ball! It's perfect for outdoor play at night—my dog loves chasing it in the dark, and the bright glow keeps the fun going even after sunset. What really impresses me is the quality; this ball has withstood my pup's enthusiastic chewing (and believe me, he can demolish a regular ball in seconds). It’s durable and built to last, making it a fantastic investment for any dog owner. If you're looking for a fun nighttime activity, this glowing fetch ball is a must-have!

My Dogs Favorite for throwing
Color: D) 2-Pack Lattice (3.25" Balls), Color: D) 2-Pack Lattice (3.25" Balls)
We brought our new adoptee home end of July, and I quickly had to find him replacements for his tennis balls because those balls are inherently abrasive and our yard has sand which gets in the fuzz and makes them extra abrasive and they were already causing tooth wear (our previous shepherd chewed tennis balls like gum for a week after his adoption, wore his teeth tips enough I noticed and I took them from him too but this guy didn't like the hand me down replacement, it was too big for his preference so I had to hunt down different ones for the current dog). I tried the glow in the dark Chuk It ones, but he doesn't like to carry them, or the smaller regular chukits... My current dog prefers these web style ones. I like glow in the dark stuff and it makes them easier to find in the evening or over night (if you have night adjusted eyes and not a lot of lights in the yard these are VERY glowy at night). Now I know he likes them I am thinking winter is coming and I may lose the glow color in the Michigan snow, so I'm here to order some in some in non snow camouflage because I want to be able to play in the winter without as much groping for hiding balls (literally he will chase and then snub any other balls in the yard I throw except the huge jolly ball but that isn't a fetch type ball, its a thrash toy. these are the only ones he will actually return for me to swap and throw indefinitely). I included video and a picture of them at the local beach. They float with enough above the water for maybe a few ants to use them as a flotation device, but take a bit of time to come to the surface when they splash down. I think brighter colors will help make them easier to find in the water as well as the snow. I think my dog likes them because the webbing design makes it easier to grip, even when slobbery his teeth can get a hold in the gaps (so can fingers haha) without slipping too badly. They also compress almost flat and boing back into shape and seem to be durable over at least 6 weeks of summer living in the yard, so far so good. They don't have a huge amount of mass so they don't whip super far but if you get a technique down you can get very reasonable distance on throws. He doesn't gnaw on them, so I can't speak to resistance to actual shearing attempts with teeth, just grab and chomp for fun, then holding in his mouth. My dog weighs about 68 lbs (we are trying to gain a bit), he is a German Shepherd, and this size fits him well (can't remember which size I got but usually Amazon shows what size the reviewer got near the title of the review. They're big enough I'm not worried he will accidentally swallow or choke on them, small enough his mouth fits them comfortably, his grip is secure because of the gaps, and he loves them. I suggest get two at least unless your pooch is super good about dropping it and letting you pick it up. With two, I can whip a ball, find the one he just dropped, and by the time he is back, I have the other one in hand. He knows I won't throw it unless he drops the one he just returned (I will wait for him to remember this), and this makes it way easier to play thow and bring it almost back (he often drops it at speed when he is nearly back to me so it rolls past me) without playing chase me for the toy... and makes reinforcing Drop It as an safe thing to do, like he isn't going to lose out if he drops the fun ball in his mouth, I have the second ball to mark (say YES!!! when he drops it) and immediately reward by throwing the ball I already had... he loves them enough that he thinks other balls are stupid so I don't want to throw a less cool ball to exchange for the cool ones haha Anyway hope this was helpful, Im off to order some of these balls in brighter colors for lake and snow visibility.

Fun Glow Balls for Night Play, Great Value
Color: A) 2-Pack (2.5" Balls)
The Chew King 2 Piece Glowing Fetch Balls are a solid, budget-friendly alternative to Chuck-It glow balls. While my pups prefer the mouth feel of the Chuck-It balls, these still provide bright, visible fun for dusk or nighttime play, and can even be used indoors with a flashlight to get the game going. Durable, glowing, and engaging—a good option for evening fetch sessions which always insures that our pups get a great night of rest.

Durable, Perfect Size, and Glows
Color: A) 2-Pack (2.5" Balls)
I bought these for my 23 pound Bojack (Boston Terrier/Jack Russel) mix and he absolutely loves them. He’s an aggressive chewer that has destroyed Kong toys. This ball has just enough flex or give in it that he can’t tear it apart as it compresses in on itself. After about 6 months it started to wear down and tear a bit by the hole so I just tossed it and gave him the other one. I’ll be buying more of these as they wear out over time.

A Must for Nighttime Fetch!!
Color: A) 2-Pack (2.5" Balls)
These are an absolute Must!! We have an ESS who is nearly 2yo and destroys Every toy he has. For some reason, he doesn't try to annihilate these glow balls. If he chomps on them, it's just for a moment while he is bringing it back to you. Has just a little weight to them so it goes far enough when thrown and a nice bounce when we have to play in the house, due to weather. Wish the bright 'glow' held a little longer but stays dim for quite some time and overall, just Awesome! Also purchased the 'chuck it' brand and sent them back because these were so much better. Will be buying more, if ever needed, but haven't had to because they are So Durable.
