Reproduction of Sea Life V by Sara Zieve Miller
Sara Zieve Miller — "Sea Life V". This watercolor study exemplifies a contemporary revival of naturalistic illustration, drawing upon the traditions of scientific and artistic marine depictions while reimagining them through a minimalist aesthetic. The composition adheres to a centered balance, emphasizing the whale’s elongated form as the sole focal point, with negative space serving as an active element that suggests the boundless ocean. Miller employs a restrained palette of cool aqua and pale gray, utilizing translucent washes to create a sense of depth and luminosity, a technique reminiscent of 19th-century natural history illustrations but filtered through a modern sensibility. The subtle variations in value and saturation within the whale’s body suggest the play of light beneath the water’s surface, while the delicate line work defines its form without excessive detail. This approach aligns with the broader trend of integrating scientific observation with artistic expression, a practice that emerged in the Enlightenment and found renewed relevance in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The work’s quietude and focus on a single, majestic subject reflect an interpretive significance that transcends mere representation, inviting contemplation on the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Its minimalist execution and serene mood position it within the lineage of modern nature studies, where simplicity becomes a vehicle for profound aesthetic and emotional resonance. For more art by Sara Zieve Miller click here.

My last Timex and why.
Color: Black/Gray/Digital, Color: Black/Gray/Digital
New edit. Upon further reflection, I’ve only had, a couple of exploratory years with Swatch excepted, Timex watches.
My first one was when my mother replaced the Chicita Banana “tickity tock” sticker with a real Timex wind up watch before my first Cub Scout camp.
In addition to many other Timex products, I’ve had these Ironman watches for the past 25+years. Usually the band wears out and can’t be replaced after three or four years. This particular watch fell apart less than six weeks old. It wasn’t hit by impact. It just came apart while I was driving down the road. I wonder if they’ve changed their manufacturing process. See photo for details. What is truly infuriating is that rather than replacing it, because it is truly a warranty issue, the told me to ship it to their offshore repair facility (which could take 3-5 months) and pay what might be half the value of the watch. Things happen, but the intentional friction they have created to avoid their obligations borders on malpractice and speaks to their indifference toward customer experience and subsequent lifetime value.

As expected
Color: Gray/Gray/Digital
Just an old school digital timex. Tried and true. Has both 12hr and 24hr function on the time setting. Has a standard stop watch and timer. The battery is great, just as it always is on a timex. Good water resistance and very easy to use. Overall very good watch for the price!

Can’t read numbers
Color: Gray/Gray/Digital
