Indiana-Heisman ARGOS, Mendoza Autographed Box Set Edition

Celebrating a Historic Moment in Time

The Indiana-Heisman ARGOS, Mendoza Autographed Box Set was created so fans can commemorate Indiana football’s first Heisman Trophy with the same care, symbolism, and Swiss Made craftsmanship that Fernando Mendoza wore when he hoisted the Heisman Trophy for the first time.

Inspired by Fernando Mendoza’s journey and designed to honor a season decades in the making, the ARGOS allows Hoosier fans to carry this historic achievement forward.

Only 75 ARGOS Autographed Box Sets will be produced.  Available in two case sizes, 38 and 42 mm, teach numbered case preserves a defining chapter in Indiana football history through a timepiece that was made to be worn, remembered, and passed down.

Design and Symbolism:

  • Hoosier Details: A celebration of this historic milestone for IU Football.  The red dial is a nod to Hoosier fans, along with the IU Trident logo at 12 c'clock with the HEISMAN wordmark at 6 o'clock on the dial.  Both the custom crown and buckle feature logos intended to honor IU Football.
  • Engraved Rehaut:  A journey, etched in steel.  Fernando Mendoza’s name is engraved at the 12 o’clock position,. At 3 o’clock, coordinates mark the beginning of his football journey in Miami; at 6 o’clock, coordinates reference Berkeley, where his collegiate career began; and at 9 o’clock, coordinates honor Indiana University, where his journey culminated in a Heisman Trophy.
  • Repeating Football Pattern: Across the dial symbolizes the teammates, coaches, family members, and fans who supported Mendoza every step of the way.
  • Bronze-Toned Components: Reflecting the color of the Heisman Trophy itself.
  • Personal Legacy: The custom rotor features the Cuban flag, honoring Mendoza’s family heritage.
  • Each Mendoza Autographed Box Set includes BOTH the signed Walnut Box and signed football (with certificate of authenticity).  Black Onyx Football produced by Leatherhead Sports and features a de-bossed Heisman Trophy logo.

Purchasers will also receive a complimentary Horn Legend vest, branded with the Heisman Trophy logo, for immediate gifting and wearing while the ARGOS is in production (~16 weeks).

Thorough But Easily Read Historical Account
Format: Paperback
I bought this book thinking it would be an account of civilian life in the U.S. during WWII. But I was surprised to see that it focused almost exclusively on the military campaigns and the decisions behind them. There was sporadic mention of life on the homefront, but mostly the book is a book about the war. Which is not a criticism. Kennedy deftly and thoroughly takes us through the war, outlines for us the challenges and opportunities and how the leaders of the affected nations developed their strategies. In addtion to the fine details of history, Kennedy writes in such a fashion that this book will probably appeal to the scholar and the layman with equal strength. As someone long in the tooth, I knew most of the history of WWII, but if you are younger and want a comprehensive, well-written history an epic period in world history, you could do a lot worse than read this compelling book.

Scholarly and Readable, Too
Format: Paperback
I read the first volume in this series (about the Great Depression), and now I'm in the midst of this one. Kennedy's very-lucid prose keeps the reader moving along, and of course, the sweep of the story he's telling is nearly-irresistible. But in lamer hands, the prose might well have bogged down in turgidity--not so in this case!
