Born poor in Devon, England (1689?), "Black" Sam Bellamy crossed the Atlantic toward Massachusetts, chasing his fortune and freedom on the high seas (if you want to get deep into this shit, dude ended up marrying a local "witch" whose own life is steeped in folklore); but what he found at sea wasn’t freedom — it was hierarchy, brutality, and the illusion of order enforced by the lash. So, he flipped the script.

Known as "the Robin Hood of the sea", Bellamy took to piracy and, within a year, captured the Whydah Gally — a heavily armed slave ship, which he turned into something radical: a warship of the dispossessed. His crew wasn’t just a gang of cutthroats — it was a floating republic of outlaws, escaped slaves, and outcasts who found equality under the black flag. Bellamy ran his ship on principle and persuasion - not fear. He banned flogging, gave every man a vote, and split treasure by merit, not rank.  It was even stated in their f-ing bylaws that wounded men would receive compensation - an early form of disability...  which not even the "traditional" navies were offering at that time.

He openly scorned the wealthy, once declaring, “They rob the poor under the cover of law, and we plunder the rich under the protection of our own courage.”

In April 1717, a violent storm smashed the Whydah off the coast of Cape Cod. Bellamy, along with nearly all of his crew, went down with the ship.  Legend says that on stormy nights, you can hear his wife, Maria Hallett, calling for him off the dunes of Wellfleet, Mass.

The shelves sag away from the wall overtime
Color: White, Number Of Shelves: 2, Size: 15.7in, Color: White, Number Of Shelves: 2, Size: 15.7in
Although the wood quality and finish of the shelf are clean and well-made, the main issue is that the shelves begin to sag over time while holding around 10 pounds, even though the product listing claims they can support up to 20 pounds. They may perform better on a brick wall, but on drywall you should be cautious. To fix the problem, I had to purchase floating shelf brackets for support, which solved the sagging issue. However, this defeats the purpose of the “floating” aesthetic. Since the shelf is in my bedroom, I can overlook it, but I personally wouldn’t install these in a common area if I wanted a clean floating look.

Looks nice, easy to install
Color: Rustic Brown, Number Of Shelves: 2, Size: 22in
This shelf is lightweight, looks nice, and was easy to install. It comes with a little level to help you install it properly. There are plenty of mounting holes to choose from, so it is easy to screw it directly into a stud, or to just use holes that are convenient for you. It comes with a plethora of mounting hardware. I mounted mine a bit high up and chose to mount it upside down so that I wouldn't see the three screws that hold the shelf to the mounting bracket.
