Making Music American: 1917 and the Transformation of CultureThe year 1917 was unlike any other in American history, or in the history of American music. The United States entered World War I, jazz burst onto the national scene, and the German musicians who dominated classical music were forced from the stage. As the year progressed, New Orleans natives Nick LaRocca and Freddie Keppard popularized the new genre of jazz, a style that suited the frantic mood of the era. The year 1917 was unlike any other in American history, or in the history of American music. African-American bandleader James Reese Europe accepted the challenge of making the band of the Fifteenth New York Infantry into the best military band in the country. Orchestral conductors Walter Damrosch and Karl Muck met the public demand for classical music while also responding to new calls for patriotic music. Violinist Fritz Kreisler, pianist Olga Samaroff, and contralto Ernestine Schumann-Heink gave American audiences the best of Old-World musical traditions while walking a tightrope of suspicion because of their German sympathies. Before the end of the year, the careers of these eight musicians would be upended, and music in America would never be the same.

Making Music American recounts the musical events of this tumultuous year month by month from New Year's Eve 1916 to New Year's Day 1918. As the story unfolds, the lives of these eight musicians intersect in surprising ways, illuminating the transformation of American attitudes toward music both European and American. In this unsettled time, no one was safe from suspicion, but America's passion for music made the rewards high for those who could balance musical skill with diplomatic savvy.

Recently Learned I Was In Early Stage Dementia
Format: Paperback
As my hubby and I had read Gary Chapman's The Five Love Languages and it was helpful to us, when I saw this book I couldn't resist. He writes a very thorough book about a husband and wife facing this dreaded condition. He gives suggestions on how to lovingly handle many of the irritating, annoying, not so nice and some dreaded situations that may be a problem between a husband and wife , by using examples of couples that have gone through these situations and how they handled it. And also gave his opinion on things that were done lovingly by the spouse who chooses to be the caretaker, or how it could've ended in a kinder, more loving, less detrimental way. I would recommend this book to ALL couples facing this disease that no one wants, and for all couples who wish to end the marriage on a better note v.s. exhaustion and relief ,when the affected spouse that has this diagnoses, finally passes.

Seems high quality, makes a good treat.
Pattern Name: Strip, Size: 3 Ounce (Pack of 1)
It's expensive, and I won't buy again most likely as I use Honest Kitchen Fish Wolfskin large chews daily to keep my dogs teeth clean (saves thousands on dentals at the vet) however, my dogs love this treat and gobble it up when offered. I was hoping it would last longer and work as teeth cleaners like the wolfskin fish chews do. Nevertheless it's a high quality food treat, and maybe I will buy again just for the occasional treat. I don't give my dogs a lot of treats much to their chagrin, but they are also not overweight either. It's not fattening and has no carbohydrates and it's not ultra-processed. I would recommend this as a treat.
