Cortaderia is an easy ornamental grass to grow and care for. It prefers a spot in full sun and thrives in well-draining soil. Once established, it is drought tolerant and only needs to be watered during particularly dry spells. Add a layer of mulch around the base of the plant in autumn to help protect roots against frost damage and prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged foliage and the previous year’s stems.
