The 215-RLED ASC Cordless Microscope from National Optical is a four-objective microscope with a 30 inclined binocular viewing and a Siedentopf head. The four ASC high contrast objectives are 4x, 10x, 40xR, and 100xR. The 40x and 100xR objectives are retractable and the 100xR objective ought to be used with immersion oil to achieve maximum resolution. The retractable 40xR and 100xR objectives have a spring-loaded lens which will retract when it touches the slide thereby protecting the lens and the slide. Both the turret and the included objectives adhere to DIN microscope objective standard. This means that you can use any DIN objective with this microscope without worrying about your microscope ever becoming obsolete. The Siedentopf head design allows for a comfortable interpupillary distance adjustment.

The supplied Achromatic Super Contrast (ASC) objectives reduce color distortions introduced by imperfections in optical elements better than regular achromatic objectives and provide higher contrast images. The parfocalled and parcentered design allows for switching objectives without having to realign your sample and without losing focus. The focusing system has a scale and can perform fine and coarse adjustments. The wide field 10x eyepieces have a pointer and can accommodate an optional reticle.

To view details of our specimens more easily, the microscope features an LED illumination system with adjustable brightness. It delivers light intensity equivalent to that of a 20W incandescent bulb. The white light from the bottom LED emitter is focused on the sample with 1.25 NA Abbe condenser.

The microscope also features a 5.3 x 5.3" mechanical stage with adjustable height. It has a movable slide holder and allows you to move your specimen slides in X-Y plane. The frame of the microscope is made of cast metal with gray enamel finish.

Included with the microscope are three rechargeable AA NiMH batteries, a battery charger, a dustcover and two Allen wrenches for rack stop and eyepiece socket tension adjustment. To recharge your microscope's batteries, just connect the microscope to the wall power adapter.

Important reading for every working woman!
Format: Hardcover
Let me start by saying that this isn't a genre I am normally drawn to. I usually am a fiction reader, but a trusted friend recommended this book so highly that I felt I should give it a chance. I'm so glad I put aside my hesitation, as I really feel this is a book that every woman in the American workforce should read. It is a fascinating primer in how we got where we are, and how much effort it took to gain even our somewhat compromised equality. While the legal issues involved can be a little complex, Thomas does an excellent job of breaking them down into straightforward concepts. I also really appreciated her ability to make the whole process of moving a case up through the Court of Appeals and eventually to the Supreme Court come to life. For those of us who are not in the legal profession, this process can seem mysterious, but this book made it easy to understand. By clearly and patiently laying out the facts of each case, Thomas also gives the reader the opportunity to test their own assumptions and think through the logic of the cases for themselves. For me, it was a fascinating opportunity to weigh my assumptions about my political leanings against my intellectual analysis of the facts, and I often surprised myself. All in all, I think this is an important book, and also a surprisingly accessible and engaging one. You will feel smarter and much more informed after reading it. And if you are a woman, you may well also feel grateful for those brave women (and men) who fought and struggled to make your experience in the workplace fairer.

Like a real-life legal thriller. Especially if you're thrilled by the progress we've made.
Format: Hardcover
This book, while deeply researched and rigorous, is the opposite of legalese. Thomas's vivid, thoughtful, witty storytelling reveals the real (and courageous) people behind the cases that made employment discrimination law what it is today. It shows not just the impact of law on people, but the impact of people on law. These women's struggles (and those of the advocates at their side) are both infuriating and inspiring. (That was me on the subway yelling at the book, alternating between "WHAT THE HELL?!" and "YOU GO, IDA!") Read it on the train, read it on the beach; just read it. I have a zillion friends with spring birthdays, not to mention my mom (who came of working age during this gender-siloed Mad-Men-tastic era) and I'm buying it for every single one.

A serious read about a very relevant, non-fiction topic... not a light hearted read.
Format: Kindle
A serious non-fiction, not a leisurely novel... very detailed, lots of research went into this, and a lot to be learned from reading thru it.. an excellent education of all that leads up to our Supreme Court,... and serious relevance to the 60’s, 70’s, up to now.... for many women.

Entertaining read
Format: Kindle
I wanted to educate myself on some of the issues that are presented in this book. If you're looking for just factual case-law and supreme court decisions this is not the book you're looking for. This book presents the cases in a story and gives a lot of detail about what went on in the lives of the people involved in these lawsuits outside of the courtroom. The only thing that I wish would have been talked about in greater detail would be a more in-depth look at the opinions and reasons from the justices that were not voting in favor of the plaintiffs.
