This beautiful ikat piece is a sarong from Indonesian island of Flores.

It is suitable as a blanket, wrap, throw, wall hanging and interior project. Perfect for the ethnic, boho and eclectic style interior decor.

The word ikat comes from a Malay word meaning to tie. The yarn are being tied or bound first, as a form of resist, in the desired pattern  and then dyed before being woven into textile. Hence the frayed look in the motifs typical of ikat fabric.

Woven in three separate sections and then sewn together to form one piece.

This piece was from the village Nggela, Ende, made by the tribe Lio, the oldest and biggest tribe on the island of Flores, East Nusa Tenggara.
