To become a member of Mugongo, the boys of Salampasu must be circumcised and go through its various initiation sub-societies, the highest of which is the society called Matambu (within which the highest level of initiate is called the Mukish ).
• Each initiation sub-society has an associated mask type that boys have access to after completing the initiation level and paying an initiation fee. Associated with the Ibuku initiation level, Kasangu masks are only accessible to warriors who have killed and beheaded an enemy in combat.
