NeroBaronj is Gulfi’s benchmark expression of Nero d’Avola, sourced from a single historic vineyard in the Val di Noto, close to the town of Avola where the grape originates. The 2015 vintage shows just how beautifully this wine ages, moving beyond sheer power into something deeper, more composed and quietly complex. In the glass, it’s a deep ruby with violet hues. Aromatically, the wine opens with ripe black cherry and wild berries, followed by balsamic notes, dried herbs and a gentle touch of sweet spice from time in large oak. On the palate it’s full‑bodied but beautifully balanced: concentrated dark fruit, firm yet polished tannins, and a long, savoury finish that feels utterly Sicilian rather than over‑oaked or heavy.

Made from 100% Nero d’Avola, organically farmed and fermented with a long maceration, the wine is aged for around two years in a combination of large and small barrels, followed by extended bottle ageing before release. This careful approach gives NeroBaronj its hallmark structure, freshness and capacity to evolve gracefully over time. Now entering a wonderful drinking window, the 2015 pairs brilliantly with slow‑cooked lamb, game, rich tomato‑based dishes or mature hard cheeses. A serious, soulful Sicilian red that rewards time in the glass — and on the table.
