Wolfgang Westerwelle präsentiert in diesem Band die Geschichte der rundlichen MAN Kurzhauber, die als »Pontonhauber« ab dem Jahre 1955 Lkw-Geschichte geschrieben haben. Er geht daneben auch auf ihre »pausbäckige Verwandtschaft«, die MAN-Frontlenker jener Zeit, ein. Mit Hilfe von Originalfotos, Werbung und Prospektmaterial aus dem Archiv der MAN wird ein lebendiges Bild jener Epoche gezeichnet, die bis weit in die 1970er reichte. Besonderes Merkmal ist der Abdruck eines Prospektes aus dem Jahre 1962, der zeitgenössisch alle Informationen zum Hauber-Typ 415 H und zum parallel gebauten Frontlenker 415 F vermittelt.
