Die Verwendung von Fangseilen ist in Deutschland bei Veranstaltungen Vorschrift. Lasten, die über den Köpfen oder im Sicherheitsbereich montiert werden, müssen gegen Herabstürzen gesichert werden. Die Stahlseile müssen beim Sturz hohe Lasten aushalten. Deshalb schreiben die Unfallverhütungsvorschriften vor, dass nur nach der Norm gefertigte Safeties zum Einsatz kommen.
Die angegebene maximal zu sichernde Last muss eingehalten werden und es dürfen nur passende Fangseile verwendet werden. Die Seile sind regelmäßig zu prüfen und auszutauschen. Nach einem harten Fall ins Seil darf das Safety nicht ungeprüft wieder eingesetzt werden.
