Auf der Grundlage historischer Tiefenschichtung entwickelt er eine neue Theorie – die der Übertragung oder Vertagung – für die Interpretation des Korans und der prophetischen Sunna. Sie ermöglicht es, der Gleichstellung der Frau in der islamischen Normlehre Rechnung zu tragen, und leistet so einen Beitrag zum menschenrechtlichen Diskurs.
